A post office named Pleasant Mount was officially established to serve the community, which had been platted nearly a decade earlier in 1838. The area was frequently referred to as Mount Pleasant, and the post office name sometimes fluctuated between the two in local usage. After serving the rural community for 62 years, the post office officially closed its doors in 1909.
