The publishing firm, Segner & Condit of Burlington, IA, is most famous for its association with Dr. John Harvey Kellogg and the early health reform movement. "Plain Facts for Old and Young" was originally published in the late 1870s and heavily reprinted through the 1880s and 1890s, this was a definitive (and controversial) Victorian-era guide to "sexual hygiene." It was sold almost exclusively through Segner and Condit's network of traveling salesmen. The book covered topics ranging from anatomy to strict dietary and moral advice, aligning with Kellogg's "biologic living" philosophy.
