The community of Sulphur Springs, located near the Mississippi River south of St. Louis, was a major destination throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries. A post office was established here very early in Missouri's history, in 1837. Before the railroads, mail was delivered to Sulphur Springs Landing by boat along the Mississippi River. The post office was closed in 1990.
