The federal government authorized and opened the Simcoe post office in 1893. It was created to connect the isolated, rural agricultural community in northeastern McDonald County to the rest of the counrty. Like most small, turn-of-the-century rural Missouri settlements, the post office was likely not a standalone building. Instead, it typically operated out of a corner inside a prominent local general store or a private residence. The post office officially ceased operations in 1909.
