The Ohio Post Office was a small-town mail hub that served rural citizens in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The federal government officially authorized and opened the Ohio, MO Post Office in 1878 to give farming families a localized place to trade, receive news, and conduct commerce. The post office served as the communicative heart of the community for 63 years. As part of the post-Depression modernization and the consolidation of rural routes into larger regional hubs, the Ohio branch was permanently discontinued in 1941.
