The post office opened on July 8, 1852, to serve the growing agricultural community in Calumet Township. It remained in operation for 55 years, providing a vital link for local farmers during the Civil War and the reconstruction era. The office was closed on October 31, 1907, as part of the nationwide consolidation of small rural offices into the Rural Free Delivery (RFD) system. The area remains primarily agricultural, and while the commercial buildings of the 1800s are largely gone, the church and cemetery still mark the spot of the original community.
