The establishment of the Jerseyville Post Office was the catalyst for naming the city. In 1834, local residents met at the "Little Red House" specifically to choose a town name so a post office could be officially established. The name "Jerseyville" was selected to honor the New Jersey origins of many of its early settlers. Card has been trimmed slightly.
