Columbia, SC CDS on postal stationery U58 - fancy killer - late 1860s
$13.99Price
Superb CDS with an intriguing fancy killer, perhaps a double-struck circular geometric. Sent to famed Civil War diarist, William Aiken Kelly, post civil war in Charleston. He began his military involvement as a corporal in the Carolina Light Infantry, a Charleston militia unit. He served as a lieutenant and later as a captain in the 1st South Carolina Regiment (Gregg’s/Perrin’s). Kelly is historically noted for his detailed accounts of the Battle of Gettysburg; his letters from the front were published in the Charleston Daily Courier in July 1863.
